5 Top Tips for Driving Your Van This Winter

A cold snap has hit the UK and it is now officially Autumn. That means frosty mornings with ice-capped roads are just around the corner. Don’t let the plummeting temperatures affect your work. Keep your van on the roads and drive safely with these five top tips:

  1. Check the tyre pressure on your van and ensure tyres are properly inflated.
  2. Do not make any sudden changes in speed. Accelerate and decelerate slowly to gain traction and avoid skidding.
  3. Be aware of extended braking distances on icy or snow-covered roads.
  4. Avoid stopping while driving up hill as it can be hard to gain traction for a hill-start when the roads are icy.
  5. Don’t let your gas tank run empty. Condensation can form on the inside of your tank and, if it freezes while the car is parked, it can cause ice blockages in the fuel lines, meaning your van will struggle to start.

Of course, if anything should happen to your vehicle, you’ll need van insurance. Compare quotes for van cover online here to find a competitive deal.
